Bias and Swedish News

My recent debate with the managing directors at Sweden's broadcasting
network (a government controlled public service network with tv and radio stations across the country) has sparked some interest - both in Sweden and abroad.

Per Bylund has an extensive comment on his blog - Colliding Softly.
As Per has noticed, the real sad thing is not so much the blatantly obvious bias in Swedish news, but rather the network's conviction that it is being fair to political views on the American right. (Sweden is of, generally speaking, much to the left of mainstream US politics - Sweden's conservative prime minister supports Barack Obama.)
I have spoken with several Swedish correspondents and to some extent they all agree that the coverage of foreign politics always has to include an "interpretor's voice" by the journalist.

I have written about bias in Swedish journalism on my old blog: here, here and here.
